Palmtop Software's
Spectrum Emulator really is remarkable - it allows you to play over
6000 Spectrum games on your Revo (or other EPOC32 palmtop, such as the 5/5mx)... for free.
This really is commercial-grade software. It supports .Z80, .SNA and .TAP files, as well
as .POK cheat files (links to resources for all of these can be found on Palmtop's Web
site), allows simple sounds, can be speeded up and slowed down, emulates a
Kempston joystick, records keypresses to replay your game later... the list goes on and on.
Initially you are shown the standard Spectrum BASIC screen. Both this and the games appear
in a screen of approximately 6x4cm, so things can seem a little cramped occasionally.
Generally it's quite playable, but some games are better than others. The Spectrum's
colours are mapped into one of 6 greyscale colour schemes, and again the best one to use
depends upon the game that you are playing.
This Spectrum Emulator is very fully-featured, and increases the number of games available
for the Revo by a huge amount - and Palmtop Software are being particularly generous by
putting this into the Public Domain. Definitely worth a try.
