If you've installed even some of the software listed on Frevo, or added shareware or
commerical software in any quantity, you'll probably find that your Extras bar has
become crowded, and maybe has run out of space (so it spills over onto a 'More' option
on the bar). It can become annoying trying to find the program you want when this
happens. Therefore, Alex Skilton at Neuon
has written NoMore to help solve this problem. I reviewed version 1.05.
NoMore can hide additional or infrequently-used programs from view, as well as creating
Windows-like shortcuts to programs, whether or not they have been hidden. It should be
noted that NoMore does not work with ROM programs (those supplied with the Revo) -
that's Word, Data, Sheet, eSetup, Sheet and Cascade. Mysteriously, although Spell is
not supplied on ROM, and must be installed to the internal disk, it cannot be hidden.
NoMore doesn't quite fit on the Revo's screen properly, to the extent that the About
menu option appears off-screen, and that the captions for the right toolbar appear
clipped because toolbar icons appear. These appear in most programs on Psion's Series
5, Series 5mx, Series 7 and netBook computers but are normally omitted on the Revo to
save screen space. These problems aren't detrimental for NoMore's functional value, but
could probably be fixed fairly simply if they were looked at.
Hiding or re-showing a program's icon is simple - simply tap the relevant button and
choose the program. When hiding, you have the option of leaving the hidden program
easily accessible by creating a shortcut on the internal disk, although this is
optional, as hidden programs can still be activated by tapping the 'Run' button within
NoMore and choosing the program from a drop-down box.
As a last option for starting hidden programs, you can either create a shortcut called
'NoMore Select' or set up NoMore in a special startup mode, both of which allow you to
choose an option from a drop-down box to run. The former runs from the System screen,
the latter from choosing NoMore's icon on the Extras bar (you get an option to bypass
this and go into NoMore proper if necessary).
Supposedly, NoMore's Extras bar icon shows a version of the Extras icon at the bottom
of the Revo's screen, with the number of hidden programs superimposed on it. Not so -
at least on my Revo anyway. When any programs are hidden, I found that the NoMore icon
changed to a question mark (the sign of a missing icon or file) and stayed like that.
This is definitely a bug.
If you suffer from Extras bar clutter, as I do, NoMore is a good utility which does its
job well. It could do with a little more bug testing on the Revo, though.
